Engagement Session Tips

Updated: Jul 4, 2021

Planning an engagement session and not sure where to even begin? Here are some tips I think will help you get the gallery you've been dreaming of!

1. PHOTOGRAPHER! The number one make or break for your engagement session is your photographer. When choosing the right one be sure to do tons of research. Check out every social media outlet they have along with their website and reviews. Make sure their style of editing and posing is something that resonates with you! Normally, if you've hired a wedding photographer you will have an engagement session with that photographer but sometimes it doesn't work out that way. Either way, you want to make sure the person photographing you is someone that you enjoy being around!

2. LOCATION! Location is literally everything other than choosing a photographer. Choose a place that means something to you, that you hold dear to you. Wether it's where you were proposed to or where you had your first date or even where your favorite beer is kept ;) Pictures can be taken anywhere and the more "you" location you choose the more you will already love your pictures.

3. OUTFITS! Don't over think this one! So many of us do, we want to look absolutely perfect for our pictures. But perfection doesn't always make you comfortable and confident and it shows. Most photographers allow 2 outfits during sessions and I would recommend something casual and maybe something a little more formal. By no means do you have to do this, it's just the simplest way to plan 2 outfits! Compliment colors and patterns, and accessorize right down to your shoes, and definitely add layers and flowy fabrics! Remember your entire outfits will be photographed and if the top half of you looks great but you have old beat up tennis shoes on it defeats the purpose. If you need inspiration head over to my Pinterest here, I've created a little gallery of ideas to help you start the process!

4. PROPS! Just another way to make your photoshoot yours. Have a favorite beer or wine you enjoy? Bring it with you! Want to add a little flare, bring some sparklers. If you and your lover enjoy picnics on the beach and listening to your significant other strum the guitar, do just that, plan a picnic guitar and all. The opportunities are endless when it comes to props! It's such a fun, simple way to bring more "you" to your photoshoot!

But at the end of the day just make sure to enjoy the time spent in front of the camera, these memories and images will last a lifetime!
